Hammonasset Beach is located in Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Connecticut. It is a beach with a variety of activities, from a jogging and walking path, to a lovely camping ground. Hammonasset State Park is named after the Hammonasset tribe of eastern Connecticut Indians. The Indian word "Hammonasset" means "where we dig holes in the ground," which is a reference to the tribe's ancient agricultural lifestyle.
